We are GOING THRU IT, a weekly conversation between two sisters learning to navigate their own grief after losing their brother, Adam to stage iv colorectal cancer.

Born 11 years apart and living on opposite ends of the country, Holly and Jill Shakoor remain each other's best friend and confidant. Like a cathartic conversation with your best friend, or for some, an actual therapy session, Going Thru It explores the many layers of loss and love and serves as a platform for true human connection.

We invite you to come along on this journey with two honest, sharp, semi soulful and empathetically entertaining sisters as they process collective family grief in real time.

HOLLY SHAKOOR FLEISCHER

Is the co-host and co-creator of Going Thru It, a podcast born from intimate conversations with her sister, Jill, about navigating grief after the loss of their brother Adam. A former Hollywood publicist turned producer, Holly has always been drawn to storytelling and the power of connection. Now based in Montclair, NJ, she serves on the boards of the Montclair Film Festival and Montclair Local, continuing her commitment to community and meaningful dialogue. Going Thru It is her way of helping others feel less alone, believing that connection is at the heart of healing.

ADAM JOHN SHAKOOR

Born and raised in Wayne, New Jersey, graduated from Lynn University with a degree in Communications. A die-hard NY Knicks fan, WWE enthusiast, Marvel and DC lover, and OG Nintendo gamer, Adam was the embodiment of what it means to be a true fan—he put the “FAN” in “FANdom.”

His passion for life and dedication to everything he did were evident in his role at Jack’s Super Foodtown in Caldwell, where he worked from 2006 and rose to General Manager. Known for his warm greetings, helpful nature, and infectious smile, Adam made a lasting impression on everyone who met him.

Above all, Adam cherished his relationships with family and friends. He created countless joyful memories with his sisters, Jill and Holly, including their beloved "Siblings Unite" tradition—sipping wine from cans, watching Arrested Development, and talking smack wherever they were in the world—from New Jersey to Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas.

Whether training at the gym, running marathons, enjoying a Yappy Hour with his beloved shelties, Zelda and Carmelo, or attending live concerts, Adam always showed up for the things he loved. He shared good times with long-time childhood friends, college buddies, coworkers, and his girlfriend, Rosemarie, often raising an Orange Jameson to life at local bars, concerts, or the racetrack.

Adam passed away on Monday, September 11th, 2024, at the age of 40, surrounded by his family, friends, and the love of his life. His unwavering spirit, sense of humor, and loyalty to the people he loved will never be forgotten.
